Using EssayClerk

Help with your next step

All thirteen tools are free to use without an account. Open a tool, enter your information, and use its examples and explanations to check the result.

Choose the right tool

  • Citations: build references in APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, IEEE or Vancouver, organize a bibliography, and review missing or inconsistent source details.
  • Writing: count words, estimate pages, explore English readability, and organize an editable essay outline.
  • Grades: calculate course grades, semester GPA, and cumulative GPA with visible formulas.
  • Study: plan study tasks and use adjustable focus sessions and breaks.

Keep a copy of your work

Inputs stay in browser memory by default. Reloading or leaving a tool can clear them. Citation projects remain available between the three citation tools during the same visit. Copy or download useful results before closing the page.

Citation projects and study plans also offer Save on this device. This saves one copy per type in this browser; later changes need another Save. Restore opens a saved copy only when you choose it. Delete removes that saved copy without clearing your current work. A shared browser profile can expose saved work to other people.

Browser data can be cleared or unavailable. Device saving is not a backup or cloud sync. Saved-data JSON downloads preserve the saved record for recovery, but there is currently no JSON file-import control. For reusable citation records, export BibTeX or RIS.

When a citation lookup fails

DOI lookup uses Crossref and ISBN lookup uses Open Library. Enter a complete identifier, review the returned edition, names and dates, and edit anything that needs correction. A match does not verify that a source or citation is correct.

If no supported result is found, add the source manually. For a temporary limit or provider outage, wait before trying again; your current source form stays available. An expired-session message may require reloading, so download your project first.

Check the assumptions

Use your syllabus and institution’s GPA scale. Page counts and readability scores are estimates, and citation checking covers only the documented fields and supported APA patterns. The study planner shows any effort it cannot fit into your available time.

Install and use the app

On supported mobile browsers, the install popup offers installation or instructions. On iPhone or iPad, use Share → Add to Home Screen; keep Open as Web App enabled if shown. Desktop browsers may offer an install option in their menu.

Installing does not save your inputs. Calculators already open can work without a connection, but reopening or reloading tools and running citation lookups need the internet. When offline, the app shows a reconnect page. The Pomodoro timer resets when you leave or reload; it waits for you to start each next session and does not send background notifications.
