Your information

Privacy at EssayClerk

Updated 9 October 2026. This page describes the current toolkit and its data handling.

Your writing and calculations

Word counts, readability analysis, page estimates, outlines, grades, study plans, and citation formatting run in your browser. EssayClerk does not submit your entered drafts, grades, outlines, source forms, or schedules to its server. There are no student accounts, cloud-saved projects, advertising scripts, session replay, or analytics scripts in the current app.

Optional citation lookup

When you explicitly request DOI or ISBN lookup, EssayClerk receives that identifier and sends it from its server to Crossref or Open Library. It does not send your draft or bibliography. Those providers handle requests under their own policies. Manual citation entry works without lookup.

Public source metadata may be cached on the server for up to 24 hours; unsuccessful matches may be cached for up to five minutes. Lookup limits use a hashed network address and short-lived counters for minute and hour windows. A hash is not a promise of anonymity. Session and security cookies support these requests; they do not save student projects.

Saving on your device

Save on this device stores an explicit copy of a citation project or study plan in this browser. It is not automatic saving or cloud sync. Other people using the same browser profile may access it. Restore and Delete are explicit choices; saving, restoring, or deleting a copy does not send it to EssayClerk.

Use Delete on the relevant tool to remove its saved copy, or clear this site’s data in your browser. Saved copies remain until replaced, deleted, or cleared by your browser. Files you download and text you copy are controlled by your device, browser, and clipboard settings. Clearing site data does not delete downloaded files.

Installation and browser storage

Dismissing the mobile install popup stores a seven-day dismissal preference, containing no student content. The installed app caches only its static offline page and icons. It does not cache your tool inputs or citation lookup responses. Installing does not back up your work, and clearing browser data can remove device copies and installation preferences.

Visiting the site

As with other websites, page and lookup requests expose connection information, such as your network address and browser headers, to the systems serving them. Loading the site is different from submitting the text in its forms. EssayClerk is hosted on DigitalOcean, with Cloudflare handling traffic in front of the hosting server. These providers process connection information to deliver and protect the site. Read DigitalOcean’s privacy policy and Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Routine Nginx access logging is disabled on the hosting server. Application, frontend and web-server error logs may contain connection or diagnostic information. A 14-day rotation target has been selected for application and frontend logs; installation and verification of that policy are still pending. Web-server error logs follow a separate daily rotation policy with up to 52 archives. These limits describe server files, not the providers’ own retention policies. EssayClerk does not intentionally log student drafts or form contents.
